Mount Carmel’s World Languages Department is dedicated to expanding our students’ knowledge of the world through the study of Latin, Spanish or Mandarin. We focus on building language proficiency in the target languages as well as a deeper understanding and appreciation of the culture and history of the Roman Empire, Spain and Latin American, and China中国体彩发布的官方app.
Research indicates that the study of World Languages develops and increases a student’s cognitive abilities. World Language study also correlates with higher academic achievement, the improvement of reading abilities, increased linguistic awareness, and the transfer of skills from one language to a student’s native language. In addition, there is a correlation between language learning and students’ ability to hypothesize in science and math. Although there are no standardized, college admission exams in World Languages, studies indicate that language study develops a student’s ability to score higher on SAT and ACT tests.
